Let’s go to Amsterdam

I went to Amsterdam for 3 days. If you’ve been following my sabbatical journey, you know I did an extreme day trip to Amsterdam a few months ago.

However, due to delays on the Eurostar, I didn’t get to see as much of Amsterdam as I wanted to, so I decided to book a 3 day mini trip (Wednesday-Saturday)

I managed to book the £39 each way ticket that Eurostar release-plus mine was slightly cheaper as I received a partial refund due to the delay of my previous trip.

Eurostar trains depart from London St Pancras. I used the Eurostar App to store my tickets.

I got the first train from Alexandra Palace (4.31am) which took me straight to Kings Cross and then it’s a short walk over to St Pancras.

On the way to Kings Cross..at 4.31am 🫠

My train from St Pancras was scheduled at 6:15am ( you have to arrive at least an hour before so that you have time to go through security and passport control)

Before I left I had already downloaded the GVB app. On this app you can get information about all the transport options in Amsterdam. You can also look at maps and buy tickets. I purchased a 3 day ticket which cost €21.50. It can be used on various transport options

After arriving in Amsterdam, I got the M(etro) 52 to De Pijp which is where my hotel was located. It was a 10 min journey on the train and then a 5 minute walk to my hotel.

I booked with easyhotel so didn’t have high expectations. The room was small and basic but clean-somewhere to lie down my head.

My first thoughts was to get food as all I had eaten since waking up at 1:30am (don’t ask) was a tangerine and some butter mintoes

I went to Layers which was a bakery on my list, but they didn’t start serving savoury options until 1pm and I was so hungry. I went to The Breakfast Club-there are several branches across Amsterdam.

I had an omelette with salmon on toast and an orange juice. Nice food.

On the way to The Breakfast Club was a bakery called Anook and their bakes caught my eye. I got a passion fruit mango tart. This was good if a little messy.

I then went to the local Albert Heijn supermarket to pick up some water and snacks. I also picked up these yuzu doughnuts which were really good.

I went back to the hotel and relaxed for the rest of the night, the early start finally catching up with me. See you tomorrow for day two!
